Aleks

Thinking oustide the box

Aleks has taught secondary mathematics in Oxford for the last 7 years and speaks 4 languages… English, Spanish, Russian, and Latvian, and is learning Chinese!

She is particularly interested in students’ understanding of their own learning. She believes that everyone should have the opportunity to explore maths through problem-solving activities that challenge and inspire them. She loves to set famous “unsolvable” maths problems from Singapore, China, Russia, Greece, England and many more… learning to think outside the box, and how to deal with “being stuck.”

Aleks wants all learners to become confident and happy, able to think for themselves and apply problem-solving strategies to different areas of their lives. The ethical values most important to Aleks are honesty, collaboration (or teamwork!), kindness, gratitude, responsibility, and tolerance. She incorporates these in her teaching, making plenty of room for the values most important to her learners.

In her spare time, Aleks also teaches Zumba classes and enjoys an active & healthy lifestyle.
